  1. This is a very complicated situation. I know the schools do not want the liability if there were to be an outbreak but the idea of forcing children to wear masks makes me very upset. As a former teacher, and a long-time school board member I think the only practical solution is to let the parents decide on what they want for their children. I see this as the best option moving forward. To show trust in the parents for a change might do wonders for the public school-parent relationships.

    1. Joe – I respect your comment (not that you asked). My concern is parents that have not supported masks, have not get vaccinated, no plans to get vaccinated and are being reckless with their daily lives. That then gets brought into the school to kids that that may have family at home that is still susceptible to getting really sick. My expectation of our schools are to keep the kids as safe as possible while within their walls. We can’t control what happens at home, but they should be able to regulate at school without interference from objecting parents. Its the majority that should be considered. With that, I give my school 100% support on whatever they decide as I trust the are doing what is best for the kids and using the resources and guidance they have.

  2. The best way to go about this is what Carmel is doing. If you aren’t vaccinated, you have to wear a mask. And it shouldn’t be the honor system like it is with businesses. Students are forced to show vaccination records beginning in Pre-K. Same rule should apply here. Parents visiting should also be required to bring their vaccination card or mask up.
