Collision Avoidance is a great feature.
Saved a few near accidents over the years.
This is really good but I’m also in the camp of “it doesn’t go far enough” to protect pedestrians and people on bikes and scooters.
Stop riding bikes and scooters. Problem solved!
I hope you will be able to turn that off. Like all the other driving assists, they are just a noisy pain. People just need to pay attention to what they are doing. You cannot legislate or regulate safety.
Agreed. Until they can detect brake lights on the car in front, gauge relative closing speeds ahead and behind and on both sides, and look to my right and left rear, I’ll keep mine turned off.
Having the car brake when the driver (correctly) wants to accelerate and/or change lanes will cause more problems than it solves…including causing someone behind without AEB to rear-end ME when my car brakes suddenly.
One of our cars literally balked going out the garage door last week because the mirror was within 6-8 inches of the garage door frame. Now, every garage in the world is tight on one side or the other and at 2-3 mph, I’m perfectly capable of the judgement required not to rip off the passenger mirror. (Or I shouldn’t be driving.)
Agreed. I just paid to return a 6-month-old leased Denali because of the annoyance of the rear emergency braking system. It would not let you back up to anything without slamming on the brakes. Too many alarms and safety nets do have a downside.
I would more likely vote for something that turns off cell phones and limits functions on dashboard entertainment systems.
Boo hoo! Both you and Chris B are off base. This is an excellent feature that *rarely* engages when not needed and when it does, there is almost never any harm. But go right ahead and think you are the best driver EVER and have never had the slightest distraction or someone stopping unexpectedly in front of you. I know you two are perfect drivers that have never made a mistake. /s
Dan M. – Agreed, disabling cell phones while driving is a very useful step to take, especially with young drivers. “They have an app for that”, literally. you can Google it . You can override it if you are a passenger.
Randy, it’s the same technology that causes “self driving” cars to run into stationary vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. No thanks. I am without doubt a far better driver than Elon Musk’s faulty system.
Chris B, wrong. It’s not the same as Tesla’s self-driving tech.
This is especially needed on semis.
The weight limit is 10,000 lbs, so at least it’s going to cover big SUV’s and pick up trucks.
