  1. So they are able to make a 70% price cut due to “pressure”? Has Lilly Senior Leadership been asked if they have simply been gouging on live saving medicine for decades?
    Does anyone know any journalists?

    1. Lilly has to make that up somewhere. It may come out of the money
for research & development or profits going to their endowment.

But make no mistake, Lilly will have to make up somewhere for that
      huge price reduction.

    2. Keith, agree. I am not in the rainbow “companies are evil!” crowd, but that is a huge number to cut because of “pressure”. A very fair and necessary question is- if you could do this, why didn’t it happen 20 years ago? I’m also sick of the second a penny of revenue is threatened at a Pharma Co, the response is “we’ll have to cut R&D!”. Really? Is that your only lever? How about selling your beachfront office in San Diego? Or dialing back your comp packages? Or having your employees work the month of Dec instead of shutting down, in addition to normal PTO days?

    3. Agreed with Chuck on that one. I’m friends with a Lilly employee and I don’t see her complaining one bit. The employees work hard but the benefits are unreal.

  2. Insulin has been a Lilly CashCow (no pun here) for 100 years. I don’t believe the manufacting process has altered much, likely improved with scale! Terrible comparison, but kinda like Coke and Pepsi, profits go to bigger marketing.
If Lilly competitors don’t play, Lilly will most likely gain market share. With several type 1 family members, I know the financial hardships that have been created for families and these young adults.
About time Big Pharma stepped up.

  3. This comes as no surprise. Eli Lilly Co. continues to raise the bar in pharmaceutical advancement and initiatives. Lilly’s commitment to be a front runner in this area is natural and to be commended. It is because of their efforts that many will have access to necessary medication and a better quality of life. Happy that this company calls Indianapolis its home.
