“Whether the legislature will accommodate the increased funding request to support Hoosiers with mental illnesses remains to be seen.”
Let me venture a guess: the state legislature will not support (to any significant degree) the increased funding that is needed to address this issue. That’s because it values less spending and higher surpluses than actually solving in a meaningful way a problem.
As for the $4.2 billion cost, legislators see it as a cost not born by the state but rather by the private and NGO sectors. So, essentially, it’s not the state government’s problem.
Makes you wonder why facilities like Central State were closed, but a great deal of money is being spent to maintain it in pristine condition as an event center…just sayin’.
The state had the money in hand but gave it back just recently. Yes, a couple hundreds probably did help some families. The lack
Of mental health facilities in this state is sorely lacking, thus the article.
