USA Diving said Thursday that Bassett will begin his duties Oct. 1.
He succeeds Lee Walsi Johnson, who came over from Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics where he was vice president of marketing. Jack Perkins had been acting CEO.
Johnson’s background was in strategic planning and brand building. Announcing his departure in September 2018, USA Diving said the rapidly changing environment of Olympic sports had “necessitated a change in the financial strategy of the organization.”
Bassett most recently worked at Nitro Circus, Travis Pastrana’s action sports company where Bassett was vice president of partnership marketing and sales.
Bassett has had other stints with the Miami Dolphins, NASCAR/International Speedway Corp., and the Professional Bull Riders.
USA Diving, the sport’s national governing body, hired an executive search firm to conduct a nationwide hunt for a CEO.
