    1. Previous reports confirm the overwhelming majority of the funds will be coming from liability insurance carriers.

    1. 1/3 – and, YES, absolutely, it would be nice if the attorneys decided to reduce their normal fee.

  1. Lawyers will get most of it…
What about the liability of the FBI since since they didn’t act on USA Gymnastic’s reporting of the abuse?
What about the parents that were in the room when it happened but were so invested in their daughter’s success ($$$) that they didn’t report it???

    1. Matthew C – personal injury attorneys typically charge 33% of the settlement – not “most of it”. You’re right that the FBI dropped the ball on this – actually people in the Indy office – and its estimated that another 70 girls/ young women were victimized by this monster after the FBI was told by another victim about what happened. I don’t recall the exact outcome, but even firing those individuals seems like an insufficient penalty for the FBI. However, there is seldom a legal way to sue the federal government. You might be right about that some/ many of these parents were concerned about their kids’ success – after all, they have been driving them to practices/ meets and paying for private coaching for many years and paying for private coaching. But to suggest that anything other than a trivial number had any idea what was happening defies logic.
