  1. If these 12,000 students are already attending private schools, why should our tax dollars go to give them aid? They are already getting the education of their choice just fine without diverting public money to private (often religious) interests. Indiana Republicans continue to gut public education to fund private interest. Disgusting.

  2. I’d be open to more funding if it came with more accountability. Indiana doesn’t have many standards for evaluating how well our school choice dollars are spent when it comes to educational outcomes … my perception is that we don’t really want to know the answer, because the outcomes are likely no better. There are other states (Massachusetts maybe?) that do private schools, but hold them to high standards and get better outcomes. If you can’t do better than the public schools and you’re doing worse, why exist?

There’s also the question of fraud. Indiana get the money back yet from the virtual schools that made off with $86 million dollars?

But I’m most glad that here in Indiana, a retired florist is able to push all these changes to our educational system since he obviously knows more about education than all the educational professionals. And I’m also glad that while we are in a pandemic short of tax revenue, now it the time to push more changes.
