Bosma, Winnecke won’t run for governor
Neither Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma nor Evansville mayor Lloyd Winnecke will seek the Indiana Republican Party’s nod to run for governor now that Gov. Mike Pence is officially Donald trump’s vice presidential pick.
U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks and Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb have risen to the top of the list among people who wanted to seek the seat. U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita is also expected to make a run for the seat.
The Indiana Republican Party’s central committee will choose the new candidate to run against Democrat John Gregg. The deadline to withdraw from the race is noon Friday.
Two people who were expected to run have already dropped out.
Bosma told reporters in a statement Friday that he would not seek the party’s nod.
"I will not seek our party’s nomination through the process available to our state party leaders at this late date,” Bosma wrote.
And Winnecke told the Evansville Courier & Press Friday that he would not seek the role either.
