Unlimited Motors is building a $12 million dealership in Westfield, where it will consolidate its Westfield and Noblesville pre-owned vehicles inventory.
It will reposition its Noblesville facility to focus on budget car sales and is about to open a new dealership in Elwood.
Owner Adel Elhaj said he expects to break ground on the 52,000-square-foot Westfield dealership at the northwest corner of State Road 32 and Ditch Road by the second week of December.
The two-story facility will feature a 24,000-square-foot service center and a host of showroom amenities when it opens in November 2021.
“I’ve been aiming towards this goal for the last 10 years; to have a pre-owned dealership that is as good or better than any new car dealership or franchise,” Elhaj said. “We wanted to change the mentality of our clients and customers when they think about a pre-owned car lot.”
When Elhaj and his wife opened Unlimited Motors in 2006, the couple primarily focused on European and other import models. Roughly four years later, the couple moved their business to 17317 Westfield Park Road and added domestic vehicles to their lineup.
That move allowed Elhaj to open a new location at 9700 N. Hague Road in Fishers in 2012, which will remain, and another at 60 N. Mill Creek Road in Noblesville around a year later.
By building the new dealership in Westfield, Elhaj is hoping to eliminate some of the redundancies that come from having locations within 10 miles of each other. Additionally, the consolidation will help bump Unlimited Motors’ maximum inventory levels up from 600 cars to 900.
Elhaj said the new location’s 20 bays will also more than double Unlimited Motors’ current service capacity. The 20,000-square-foot showroom will feature multiple lounge areas, a café, private offices and conference rooms. There’s also a planned 2,000-square-foot automotive photography studio and an employee gym on the second level.
Currently, Unlimited Motors has 39 employees across its three locations. Elhaj expects that number to jump to 70 by the time the new store opens next year.
At the same time, Elhaj is working to open a new dealership at 10083 State Road 13 in Elwood. He said the company purchased a former Chevrolet dealership there in September, and he’s since invested a couple hundred-thousand dollars to revive the 22,000-square-foot location.
Elhaj said the Elwood dealership, scheduled to open Jan. 2, will focus on cars and trucks. Eventually, he hopes to add semi trucks, heavy equipment and other commercial vehicles to the mix.
That location has room for 400 vehicles and Elhaj expects it to create up to 22 new jobs when it’s fully operational.
“This year has been a tough year for everybody, but it was a good year for the car business,” Elhaj said. “The Elwood project was not in my plans, but there was an opportunity to purchase the property for a very good price, and I took advantage of it. We have the manpower and I have good people around me, so that’s what we decided—that we’d keep it going.”
