Ana Gasteyer

June 6-7

Cabaret at the Columbia Club

When I bring up the fact that Ana Gasteyer was a regular on “Saturday Night Live” for six seasons (including memorable turns as fictional quintessential NPR host Margaret Jo), you might think the Cabaret at the Columbia Club is drifting from its mission. Those who know her from late-night television, though, may not be aware of her stints on Broadway in “The Royal Family,” “The Threepenny Opera” (sharing the stage with Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper), and as a replacement Elphaba in the vocally demanding “Wicked.” A wicked witch with strong sketch comedy chops? White Rabbit Cabaret

My only concern about this spirited adult marching band’s performance at the White Rabbit is structural damage. The high-energy group—a collective of about 30 performers, 20 of which may appear in a given show—includes not only horn and drum sections, but also stiltwalkers/dancers, bass and guitar. If Sgt. “Pillow Talk.”

Indianapolis Museum of Art

The IMA kicks off its Summer Nights outdoor movie series with the Rock Hudson/Doris Day romantic comedy "Pillow Talk."  She's an uptight designer. He's an uptight designer. And there used to be these things called telephones that were exclusively used for conversations and sometimes…well, you'll figure it out from the film, which brought Day an Academy Award nomination. can't make it to this one? The summer series also includes "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "The King and I," "Hoosiers," "Rushmore" and more. Details here.

Also this week

PrideFest, June 6 at American Legion Mall, includes entertainment from Mya (perhaps best known for the “Lady Marmalade” remake and her stint on “Dancing with the Stars”), the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus, Pride of Indy Jazz Band, and more. Details here.

The Independent Music & Art Festival, June 8 at the Harrison Center for the Arts, features a full day of music, including Lord of the Yum-Yum, Rusty Redenbacher and a band that performs songs based on “Star Trek” episodes. Details here.
