— Beginning Aug. 24, tune into the Food Network's "Rachael Ray's Kids Cook-off" and you'll see 11-year-old Indy resident Sabrina Richard competing for a $20k culinary scholarship and a Food Network web series. You can follow Sabrina's adventures (and get some cooking tips) here.
— The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra has made three new appointments for the 2015-16 season. Austin Huntington, who made his solo debut with the ISO in 2010, is the new principal cellist, IU alum Peter Vickery takes the post of assistant concertmaster, and Michael Muszynski, formerly of the Atlanta Symphony, will take the Second Bassoon spot.
—Angelo Pizzo, the screenwriter behind "Hoosiers" and "Rudy," both directed and wrote the new film "My All American," which is slated for an Oct. 9 release. Surprise: It's a sports film, focusing on defensive back Freddie Steinmark (played by Finn Wittrock) who fought his way onto the University of Texas football team before being diagnosed with cancer. Aaron Eckhart plays coach Darrell Royal in this independently financed project.
—Henry Leck, founder of the Indianapolis Children's Choir, has announced his retirement. He'll be stepping down at the end of the 2015/16 season after 30 years at the baton.
—When Pike High School graduate and now Saturday Night Live featured player Sasheer Zamata takes the stage on her home turf, it won't be at one of the city's established comedy clubs. Instead, she'll be going the alt route and playing the intimate White Rabbit Cabaret in Fountain Square Sept. 6. Info here (and note that her local connected isn't even mentioned).
