Here's my high-hopes list for this week.

“200 Years of Indiana Art”

Bicentennial events are popping up all over the state. In this one, the Indiana State Museum devotes two galleries—one to art created in the state’s first 100 years and the second to the rest. In addition, Anila Agha’s 2014 ArtPrize-winning installation “Intersections,” which will be given its own custom gallery.

“Newsies”

It’s the first time in Indy for the surprise hit musical based on the flop film. A group of newsboys stages a strike against greedy Joseph Pulitzer with toe-tapping results. March 15-20 Clowes Memorial Hall  Details

“Mansfield Park”

Attention Jane Austen fans: Jonathan Dove’s 2011 chamber opera gets its Indianapolis Opera premiere. The critic for the London Evening Standard called it “witty, brilliantly inventive.” That’s promising even for those of us lesser Austen-ites.  March 18-20 Schrott Center  Details

Also this week

Claire Wilcher and Ben Asaykwee star in the original musical "White City Murder" at Q Artistry March 18-April 2.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center plays Mozart, Schubert and Mendelssohn  March 16 at the Indiana Landmarks Center.

D.J. Jazzy Jeff plays the Vogue March 18.

March 18 at Hilbert Circle Theatre, guest soloist Kari Kriikku joins the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for the U.S. premiere of Kimmo Hakola’s “Clarinet Concerto.” Also on the bill: Carl Nielsen’s “Symphony No. 4,” aka “The Inextinguishable,” featuring a pair of battling timpani.

The San Francisco’s Alonzo King LINES Ballet comes to the Tarkington March 18-19.

Carol Birch offers a dramatic reading from John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath”—the parts not focused on the Joad family—in this Storytelling Arts of Indiana presentation of “Steinbeck Out Loud!,” March 19 at Indiana History Center

“Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage" flies into the Murat March 18, followed by Tony Bennett follows on March 19.
