For the past two and a half years as curator of audience experiences and performance, Scott Stulen has helped redefine the Indianapolis Museum of Art, bringing in such out-of-the-box ideas as the current mini-golf course and a festival of cat videos to supplement more traditional fine art experiences.
As of Aug. 22, he’ll be taking his ideas elsewhere, having been named director of the Philbrook Art Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In a prepared statement, he said “This is truly the right opportunity at the right time—for me professionally and my whole family. Philbrook shares my philosophy that museum’s need to put the visitor first by creating experiences that inspire. This innovative thinking is at the forefront of our industry; I look forward to building on the current success to shape Philbrook’s future."
His IMA stint included establishing family days, an adult summer camp, B-movie Bingo, and Silent Night—an evening of wordless activity.
“I am grateful for the opportunity and proud of the work my team accomplished in a short period of time,” he noted. “The Indianapolis community has been equally welcoming, friendly and supportive since the day we arrived. Indy will hold a special place in our lives and we will follow all of the amazing things yet to come.
