“Jailhouse Rock”
The glorious one-screen movie house in downtown Franklin screens classics and popular flicks of yesteryear weekly. Pick just about any Friday or Saturday and you are likely to find something more fun than what’s at the multiplex—and with better popcorn, too. I picked “Jailhouse Rock” because it hasn’t been overplayed and would be a blast on the big screen. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some dancing in the aisles. Jan. 6-7 Artcraft Theatre Details
First Friday
The year in gallery openings kicks off quickly with First Friday events including a Year of Vonnegut Kick-Off Party at the soon-to-be home of the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library on Mass Ave, the photo show “Down On My Knees I Pray” at Listen Hear, Sarah Hobbs’ photographs of installations she builds to represent the human psyche at iMOCA at City Way Gallery, and a closing reception for “Tiny V” at Gallery 924. ISO Happy Hour/Maureen McGovern
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Thursday 5 p.m. Happy Hour performance features Time for Three and music ranging from Tchaikovsky to Drake. For the weekend concerts, Maureen McGovern, best known perhaps for “The Morning After,” joins the ISO for a pops program of “Timeless Classics”
