Some promising events from this week's offerings in the Indy area:
“Bigger Picure Show 8 Trax: Movies with Music”
This one needs a bit of explaining for the uninitiated. For eight years now, designers have participated in this Indy Film Fest program by reimagining posters from classic movies. Those framed works are then auctioned off to the highest bidders. Music, food trucks, and, of course, beer and wine round out the evening. March 12 Central State Village Details
“An American Celebration” with LeVar Burton
If you’ve ever tuned in to PBS over Independence Day weekend, you may have noticed the Jack Everly leading the “A Capitol Fourth” program of patriotic tunes. For this weekend’s concerts, Everly taps into some of those selections for a patriotic celebration including music by John Philip Sousa, Irving Berlin and, of course, George M. Cohan. Bonus: Actor LeVar Burton supplies narration and the Americana Choir kicks in vocals. May 12-14 Hilbert Circle Theatre Details
Virginia Avenue Folk Festival
The list of venues is almost as long as the list of performers at this free annual event, which parks performers in the Hi-Fi, Chilly Water, Hotel Tango, Bluebeard, and more as well as on outdoor stages in Fountain Square. And since folk music has not solid definition, the fest’s website conveniently allows you to click and match your taste, whether that’s funk/soul, Indy/Pop, or Hip Hop. And if all that isn’t enough for you, hit the Hi-Fi for an after party (this one’s ticketed) with Willy Watson Saturday night. Details
