Two weekends of festivals cater to the geek in us. The first, a volunteer-run event, focuses on science fiction and fantasy, with panel discussions, gaming, a costume contest, and a charity auction that I’ll be presiding over. See you there? Indy PopCon, a more celebrity focused event, returns the following weekend with “Revenge of the Nerds” actors Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong, “Flash Gordon” star Sam Jones, and loads of YouTubers with strong fan bases. “Star Spangled Symphony”
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s 4th of July celebration begins the weekend before and includes cannons, fireworks, and, of course, Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” (which, inexplicable, has become musically linked to the American Revolution).
