Legal news keeps coming

Law firm mergers keep making news. IBJ Scott Olson reported
this morning
that Ice Miller is about to join with Greenebaum Doll & McDonald in Louisville. In May, Sommer Barnard
was absorbed by Taft Stettinius &
Hollister in Cincinnati.

Firms are hustling to get big and survive as the economy contracts and clients spend less.

What law firms wonâ??t admit publicly is layoffs. Several local firms have let lawyers go in recent months because there wasnâ??t
enough business to go around.

No longer is law the stable career enjoyed by legions of attorneys in prior decades.

Does the instability detract from the desirability of the profession?
