Retail roundup: Noblesville sports bar, sushi, doughnuts, pretzels, Burritos & Beer

Former owners of The Red Room nightclub in Broad Ripple are opening a Noblesville sports bar they hope will draw fans who don’t want to miss the big game, whatever it is.

Nemo’s Sports Pub and Grill is slated to open early next month at 15887 Cumberland Road, in a strip center facing State Road 37 south of Greenfield Avenue.

“Our No. 1 priority is sports—all sports,” said Mitsy Niemeyer, the wife and mother of co-founders John and Eric Niemeyer. “If you don’t have a ticket to the game, we hope you’ll be at Nemo’s.”

And the game will be bigger than life at the 4,800-square-foot bar. A 9-foot-by-16-foot video screen will be flanked by a pair of 4-by-8 displays, she said.

Nemo’s is the brainchild of Eric Niemeyer, a Fishers resident who started working in bars during college and returned to the tap after a stint as a geologist and a flirtation with a music career. (The bar moniker comes from his nickname, not the Disney movie.)

As he worked his way up the hospitality hierarchy to general manager in a chain of bars, Niemeyer kept notes on what he liked and what he’d do differently in his own place. His parents sold The Red Room in March to help make his dreams come true.

Mitsy Niemeyer described Nemo’s culinary offerings as “upscale bar food,” mostly sandwiches and appetizers—including freshly made burgers and fries—and just a single entrée: a steak dinner that has been a family favorite for 20-plus years.

The bar will have two dozen beers on tap, she said.

Its owners want Nemo’s to become a hometown hangout. One room will be adorned with photos of former Noblesville “Millers,” Niemeyer said, including local sports heroes such as Olympic diver David Boudia and race car driver Conor Daly.

John Niemeyer is retired after working 35 years as a science teacher and coach at Noblesville High School. He and Mitsy live in Noblesville.

Nemo’s is far from the only coming attraction north of 96th. Here are some others:

— Mexican restaurant Burritos & Beer is planned for 14094 Trade Center Drive in Fishers. The 1,580-square-foot eatery is expected to seat about 45. A preliminary menu posted online lists a handful of Mexican staples, plus breakfast.

— Red Sake Japanese Bistro is planned for 11228 Fall Creek Road in Fishers. The 1,965-square-foot sushi bar’s liquor-license application is pending.

— Dunkin Donuts is poised to enter the already-crowded Fishers doughnut market. Indianapolis-based DH Restaurant Group has plans for a 2,400-square-foot store at 8942 E. 96th St.  The town’s Board of Zoning Appeals in May voted to allow Dunkin Donuts to offer drive-through service in the strip center east of Lantern Road.

— Pat’s Philly Pretzels has opened a Fishers location at 8395 E. 116th St. The locally owned soft-pretzel purveyor also has stores at Indianapolis City Market and on 42nd Street in SoBro, and its products are sold at area farmers’ markets.

— Starbucks and Subway are expected to join Crown Liquors in a 7,400-square-foot retail center at 13844 Olivia Way in Fishers, just east of Interstate 69’s Exit 210. (Beware: You’ll have to navigate an octopus-like roundabout to get there.)

— 69 Petro Inc. is constructing a multi-tenant building at 14126 Bergen Blvd. in Noblesville’s Saxony Corporate Campus, west of Exit 210 across from Hamilton Town Center. The 9,000-square-foot structure is expected to house a Shell gas station and convenience store.

— T.J. Maxx sister store HomeGoods is remodeling space next door to the discount retailer’s Noblesville location at 17120 Mercantile Blvd. TJX Cos. Inc. operates more than 400 HomeGoods outlets throughout the country, including a T.J.Maxx/HomeGoods combo in Castleton. The Noblesville store will occupy about 28,000 square feet.
 
— The Vitamin Shoppe is planning a Noblesville location at 17143 Mercantile Blvd., in one of the Stony Creek Marketplace outlots. The New Jersey-based retailer sells nutritional supplements at more than 400 stores nationwide.

— Pizza Hut is firing up its ovens at Hazel Dell Crossing, a retail center at Hazel Dell Road and 146th Street. Fort Wayne-based Pizza Hut of Noblesville Inc. is planning an 1,800-square-foot carryout/delivery storefront that would employ about a dozen people.

— Rockstone pizza pub is under construction at 11501 Allisonville Road, next door to Sahm’s Restaurant in Fishers. As IBJ reported in April, the Sahm’s spinoff will occupy 4,800 square feet of space left vacant after the locally owned restaurant chain swapped locations with CVS Pharmacy several years ago. Sahm’s Food Service Co., meanwhile, plans to expand the kitchen at 11505 Allisonville Road by 2,400 square feet.

Whew. That’s a lot to digest. Chew it over and tune in tomorrow for projects from points west: Carmel, Westfield and Zionsville.
