Roundup: Tilted Kilt in Carmel, plus beer, burgers, sweet tea and toys

Tilted Kilt is coming to Carmel.

The Hooters-like Celtic sports pub chain is preparing to remodel a 6,800-square-foot building at 2293 E. 116th St., just west of Keystone Parkway. Most recently home to a seafood and sushi buffet, the site previously housed O’Charley’s and Majors Sports Cafe.

Based in Tempe, Ariz., Tilted Kilt is known for its scantily clad servers—think mini-kilts with matching bras and midriff-baring tops. The menu: a tilted take on standard pub fare, anchored by “big arse” burgers. Draft beer and widescreen TVs abound.

The chain has a location on Meridian Street in downtown Indianapolis, and a second outlet is planned inside the Caribbean Cove Hotel & Conference Center (and water park) at Interstate 465 and Michigan Road this summer.

Tilted Kilt’s Carmel location is across 116th Street from the Merchants Square shopping center, where movie theater-microbrewery Flix Brewhouse is under construction.

The beer rush continues in Carmel’s Arts & Design District, where Ohio-based The Pint Room just opened at the corner of Main Street and 1st Avenue NW. A block west, local favorite Scotty’s Brewhouse moved into space overlooking the Monon Greenway.

To the north in Clay Terrace, Henry’s Pub & Grill has taken the place of short-lived Stanford’s, which replaced high-end restaurant sibling Kincaid’s last year. Stanford’s closed early this year for remodeling and “re-concepting.”

Bagger Dave’s Legendary Burger Tavern has opened a 4,700-square-foot restaurant at 2740 E. 146th St. in Westfield (between Carey Road and Greyhound Pass). The Michigan-based chain also is planning to open a location in Fishers.

Also in Westfield, Grand Junction Brewing Co. is pouring pints in an historic downtown building at 110 S. Union St. The brewpub has proven popular enough in the early days that it has run out of food more than once.

In other (non-beer) retail news:

— Fear not, sweet tea fans. McAlister’s Deli plans to reopen its restaurant in downtown Fishers this month after an interior overhaul. Modeled after some popular amenities at a new Carmel location, changes include a tea bar and condiment counter, 30-seat meeting room, a patio and expanded audio/visual systems. The restaurant at 8355 E. 116th St.is scheduled to reopen May 26.

— The sun is setting on My Toy Garden in Carmel. Toy store owner Janet Pillsbury told customers last month that she’s leaving the business to return to a career in direct sales—and spend more time with her 4-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son. The education-oriented store has been listed for sale since October, and Pillsbury said she’s in talks with a potential buyer. (Current asking price: $70,000.) But time is running out. Her children start summer vacation in two weeks, and Pillsbury said she needs to sell the store fixtures if a new owner isn’t going to take over. Today is the last day she’ll keep regular hours at the shop.
