A private college system plans to move into the Lexington project at Meridian and 12th Streets downtown. Brown Mackie College has executed a lease for 25,000 square feet in the 1921 building that once housed Lexington Automobile Co. The building is part of a redevelopment and renovation project by locally based Shiel Sexton, which bought an entire city block (including the Lexington building and others it has torn down) at auction in September 2006 from office equipment distributor VanAusdall & Farrar Inc. Brown Mackie is owned by Education Management Corp. and also has campuses in Merrillville and Michigan City.
