Here's a schmear of retail news to report from the metro area, leading off with the closing of two Einstein Bros Bagels locations.
• Einstein Bros Bagels closed two local locations on Tuesday: the downtown shop at 15 E. Market St., and 8650 E. 96th St. in Fishers.
Locations remaining open include 1055 E. Broad Ripple Ave.; 3450 W. 86th St., 6520 E. 82nd St.; 5999 Crawfordsville Road in Speedway; and 2350 E. 116th St. in Carmel. Einstein's location in Greenwood closed in September.
The current closings are part of a decision by Einstein Noah Restaurant Group Inc. to shut 39 underperforming restaurants nationwide.
• Under Armour is opening a store at The Fashion Mall at Keystone, next to True Religion and across from L'Occitane. The closest Under Armour store is at the Edinburgh Premium Outlets mall in Edinburgh, although Runner’s Forum stores in the Indianapolis area carry the company’s products.
• Sultana Cafe has filed plans to occupy space at 1107 N. College Ave. in the renovated retail strip where the R2Go market opened late last year. Sultana owner Mohey Osman, a native of Egypt, operates Crust Pizzeria Napoletana in Carmel and formerly owned Egyptian Cafe & Hookah Bar locations in Broad Ripple and West Lafayette.
• Brixx Wood Fired Pizza opened Feb. 23 as the first retail tenant in the Depot at the Nickel Plate mixed-use development at 8594 E. 116th St. in Fishers. Jim and Tom Lessaris and Tom Scaggs are the owners. The restaurant’s menu features salads, pastas and sandwiches in addition to several craft beers and wines.
• Kroger plans to build a 123,000-square-foot store along U.S. 31 in Franklin, just south of its existing store at 1700 Northwood Plaza. The new grocery, which will be located next to Kohl’s, will replace the existing store and will feature an expanded deli and bakery section as well as a larger pharmacy and drive-thru. A start date for construction has not been finalized.
• Mambo’s Cheesesteak Grill, a local restaurant startup, is set to open March 2 in City Market.
• Faith's Cake Ball Factory at 930 N. Rangeline Road in Carmel plans to close Wednesday. Owner Faith Bublick said in an e-mail that she lost her lease and has been unable to find a new location.
