Roundup: Jack’s Donuts opening downtown, Binkley’s debuting tap room

It looks as though the former Noble Roman’s space on West Market Street won’t be staying vacant for long.

• Jack’s Donuts, a New Castle staple since 1961, hopes to be operating at 135 W. Market St. by the first of July, franchisee Chris Karnavas said.

Karnavas also has plans to open a second downtown location—in ground-level space at Milhaus Development LLC’s Artistry mixed-use project at East Washington Street and East Street.

He said that space should begin serving customers in either September or October.   

The family-owned Jack’s has metro-area locations in Carmel at 516 E. Carmel Drive and in Fishers at 13578 E. 131st St. Its newest store, in Muncie, opened June 4. It recently started franchising locations.

• Open Society Public House at 4850 N. College Ave. is open for breakfast and lunch. Dinner should be available this weekend, according to the diner’s Facebook page.

The South American-themed restaurant is operated by Indianapolis native Brian Baker. It's located in the Uptown Business Center next to the Upland Brewery and last occupied by the Paw Patch Veterinary Hospital. Baker also took the space to the rear of the building where Agrarian Urban Homestead & Supply was.

• Farther north, Binkley’s Kitchen & Bar at 5902 N. College Ave. is set June 17 to debut its new tap room. Binkley’s expanded into space to the north, between the restaurant and Scandinavian Comfort, to accommodate the tap room.

• Ross Dress For Less, a Dublin, California-based discount clothing and home goods retailer, is opening its first store in the Indianapolis area, at 5415 E. 82nd St. in Castleton, formerly occupied by high-end retailer Clark Appliance. The store should open this fall.

Ross operates 1,274 stores in 34 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.

Clark Appliance closed in December 2014 after a failed attempt to reorganize debt.

• Meijer opened its 192,000-square-foot supercenter at 5550 N. Keystone Ave. on Tuesday. The debut brought the total to 12 stores in the Indianapolis area for the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based retailer.

• The Dollar Tree store at 7225 N. Keystone Ave. in Norgate Shopping Center is set to reopen June 30 following an expansion into the former Subway and Comic Carnival spaces next door. Comic Carnival has moved a few doors down.

Closings from a couple of short-timers:

• Southwestern saloon Reata at 247 S. Meridian St. closed late last month after roughly a five-month stint. The space was taken over on May 31 by the landlord, according to signs on the windows.

• Vireli’s Fine Dining is no longer serving customers in the former O’Charley’s building at 3851 Vincennes Road on the city’s northwest side. It opened in January.
