The Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway earned a .14 national television rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. The rating means 165,000 TV households nationwide watched the race which aired on Versus cable channel starting at 8 p.m. (Saturday) Aug. 1. The TV rating for the race in the Indianapolis market was 1.14, equating to 13,000 TV households.
The national ratings were down from the July 26 Indy Racing League race in Edmonton, which earned a .24 rating (279,000 TV households), according to Nielsen. Indianapolis market viewership of the Kentucky race was up a bit compared to the Edmonton race. The Indianapolis rating for the Edmonton race was .73 (8,000 TV households).
At Kentucky, Ryan Briscoe edged past Ed Carpenter for one of the closest finishes all year. The finish came after several laps of side-by-side racing.
The IRL’s next race is Sunday at Mid-Ohio, a road course. The green flag on the Versus broadcast drops at 1 p.m.
