The state also reported 16 new deaths due to the coronavirus. Reported deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits in 112 of the past 113 days.
The department said 6,799 new individuals were tested Sunday in Indiana, bringing the cumulative total in that category to 2,963,581.
January saw the third-largest monthly increase in reported COVID-19 cases, at 110,618, trailing totals in December and November.
The state’s cumulative death toll increased by 1,597 in January, the second-highest monthly increase behind December’s rise of 2,418.
Testing of unique individuals rose by 313,617 in January, the fifth-highest monthly total in that category.
Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 ticked up from 1,584 on Saturday to 1,594 on Sunday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.
The state said more than 143,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as Sunday at 5 a.m. More than 562,000 had received the first dose of a vaccination.
School data
The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported the latest figures related to schools. The results are updated weekly. The latest report covered the week ended Jan. 29.
The latest figures showed a rise in student COVID-19 cases of 1,289, an increase of 242 teacher cases and 338 more staff cases.
Cumulative case counts since the beginning of the school years rose to 25,494 students, 5,192 teachers and 6,122 staff members.
The state said 1,9176 schools have reported one or more cases, while 161 have seen no cases. Another 290 schools have not reported data to the state.
