Subscribe NowMy thanks to IBJ for providing attention to differing opinions on timing of divided public policy on mandates for masking [Debate: “Is it the right time to lift the mask mandate?” Forefront, April 9].
The current edition of the New England Journal of Medicine published a feature article based on current evidence of the rate of per-capita vaccination rates worldwide needed to achieve herd immunity. The latter is defined by 80% fully vaccinated. At the current rate of 6.1 million vaccinations daily, it will take 4.7 years to achieve global herd immunity.
Let’s remember COVID-19 spread to our community from overseas, not from Carmel.
The facts simply do not support the false position taken by Kyle Reynolds [“With vaccines for all, it is time to end mask mandates”]. Vaccinations currently are not available to all.
Dr. Richard Feldman’s opinion is backed by substantiated evidence free of politics [“End of Indiana’s COVID-19 restrictions was premature”]. The COVID-19 virus could care less about our freedom and preferences for uninfringed civil liberties. It is the most American thing for us to do: the strong to protect the vulnerable and continue all public health protocols including masking.
