The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 506 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest number of new cases in the daily report since July 13, when the count was 452.

The drop in cases came amid a huge decline in testing. The department reported the testing of 5,983 new individuals, the lowest number in a week and only the second time testing has failed to top 6,000 in a daily report since July 13.

The state’s 7-day testing-positivity rate fell from 8.2% on Tuesday to 7.9% on Wedneday, while the overall testing-positivity rate remained at 8.8%.

The department reported 14 new deaths on Wednesday. Indiana has averaged more than 13 new deaths in the daily report over the past 10 days.
