State reports another 730 COVID-19 cases, 5 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported 730 new cases of COVID-19. Cases have been below the 1,000 mark 30 times in the past 32 days.

Indiana also reported the deaths of five more people from COVID-19, raising the cumulative number to 12,622.

The department reported the testing of 3,409 new individuals.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose from 617 on Saturday to 655 on Sunday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 1.08 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Monday at 5 a.m. More than 1.6 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 9.3%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 3.6%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

First dose administered: 1,607,932 (daily increase of 5,070)

Fully vaccinated: 1,088,141 (daily increase of 5,441)

Marion County 7-day positivity rate unique individuals: 7.9%

Hendricks County cumulative cases: 16,309

Johnson County cumulative cases: 17,005

Madison County cumulative cases: 12,036

Boone County cumulative cases: 6,360

Hancock County cumulative cases: 7,675

Morgan County cumulative cases: 6,263

Shelby County cumulative cases: 4,702

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 35.9 %

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 5.2

Available ventilators: 81%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 2%

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.

  1. Try to stay vigilant. Our positivity rate and hospitalizations are both rising from the nadir in the middle of March. My fear is that we will have increases (and comparatively higher numbers) through April before the numbers tail off starting in May. So, keep washing your hands and taking care of yourself.
