You-review-it Monday: Art Squared, ‘Crucible,’ more

For me, a wonderfully packed weekend in Indy arts included the IRT's "The Crucible," the Phoenix Theatre's "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike," and NoExit's "Big Bad Wolf." All very different. All passionately presented. All showcasing strong talent. And all shows I'm looking forward to writing more about. Stay tuned.

I also made it to Fountain Square for the joyful Art Squared festivities, which included infectious music from Playing for Change bands and a playful, spirited community parade that the 500 Festival should take some tips from. And I popped in to see the exhibition of Gino Miles sculptures in the lobby of the Conrad Hotel (Yes, you are allowed to stroll in and check it out yourself).

In between, I chipped away at the pile of Heartland Film Festival screeners in preparation for my annual recommendations column for the October event and started reading a book by a local novelist with a national reputation in hopes of reviewing it soon.

Tired? Nah. This is why I love my job.

So what did you get to over the weekend? The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's opening gala? Or perhaps its community day free events? The final weekend of "Pippin" at Civic or the opening weekend of "Sunset Boulevard" at Footlite? ATI's "Always…Patsy Cline" or Storytelling Arts' presentation of Patrick Ball? Fiesta? The block party around the Jazz Kitchen?
