It was Tony Awards weekend, so in addition to tweeting commentary during the awards @ibjarts, I spent part of the weekend reading Ethan Mordden's book on the musicals of the 80s and 90s "The Happiest Corpse I've Ever Seen."
I also caught Tony-winner Laura Benanti in her surprisingly disappointing set at the Cabaret at the Columbia Club. There, song selection fought against her mid-song banter as her character seemed to change on a whim multiple times in just about every song. Only toward the end of the show, when she recreated a pair of songs she sang on Broadway–"Unusual Way" from "Nine" and "Model Behavior" from "Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown"–did voice and song completely click.
And you?
Did you get to Eclectic Pond's "Wars of the Roses"? Join the crowds at your local movie theater for "The Fault in Our Stars"? Spread a blanket at the IMA for a Summer Nights movie?
