Searching for something to do this week? There are plenty of options, among them:
Heartland Film Festival
There’s a lot to choose from at this year’s Heartland Film Festival, including some flicks you might not expect from Heartland, including “Drunktown’s Finest,” a stereotype-breaking look at the Navajo Nation, and “Off the Floor,” a documentary about pole dancers. You can find my picks from those I’ve pre-screened (including a terrific documentary about my hero, James Randi), here. Oct. 16-25 Various locations More info here.
Art in Odd Places Fest
I’m not sure how odd the stretch is from Monument Circle to Indianapolis City Market, but that’s the territory marked for this first-time-in-Indy event. One of the goals is to reimagine public space. To that end, a juried tribe of performing and visual artists will be creating free work that will only be accessible for a weekend. The theme: Free. Expect disco balls dangling from trees (feel free to dance), demonstrations of impractical products, your locked biked to be awarded a ribbon and bouquet, your comments on the artwork to be turned into music, and much more. All in all, it looks like a great excuse to take your time going home from your downtown job on Friday or heading toward the Circle on Saturday. Oct. 17-18 Various locations More info here.
Fleetwood Mac
Probably the most anticipated concert of the year for classic rock fans, Fleetwood Mac comes to the Fieldhouse largely intact with Christine McVie having rejoined the group in January. Oct. 21 Bankers Life Fieldhouse More info here.
