Art and Soul 2015

The annual month-long celebration of African-American art and artists in Indianapolis kicks off Jan. 31 with an event showcasing Griot Drum Ensemble and festival featured artists Mathew Davis (spoken word), Zakk Knight (music), Kassim Norris (visual art), and Ronne Stone (dance). “A Hard Day’s Night”

Feel like you’ve been working like a dog? Take a break with the oft-copied-but-never-matched Beatles film. It stars John Lennon as John, Paul McCartney as Paul, George Harrison as George, Ringo Starr as Ringo, and, of course, John Junkin as Shake. A screening of the 50^th anniversary restored addition will be preceded by music trivia. More here.

Vocal Ease

Some of Indianapolis’ leading vocalists—including Brenda Williams, Shannon Forsell, Sarah Scharbrough and Tad Robinson team up—team up for a night of rhythm-section-supported jazz standards and more. Two shows: 7:30 and 9:30. More here.

“The 39 Steps”

In what may be the most popular show in recent years from local professional companies (with previous productions from the Indiana Repertory Theatre and Cardinal Stage), this Hitchcock spoof gets its latest go from Actors Theatre of Indiana. The cast includes Don Farrell and Lisa Ermel. More here.

The Texas Tenors with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra

As the name implies, the Texas Tenors specialize in a mix of country and classical—with some gospel thrown in. The Branson regulars who became top-four finalists on “America’s Got Talent” come to the Palladium to front the Carmel Symphony for a weekend of concerts. More here.
