Broad Ripple Art Fair

Here’s your chance to a) casually check out the work of more than 225 artists—and maybe add to or start your art collection, b) chat with representatives from arts organizations from around the region and learn about upcoming offerings, c) hear music by Bigger Than Elvis, Cathy Morris, and more, d) take a pop-up art class, e) do some food truck dining, f) explore the Indianapolis Art Center, which will be packed with demonstrations and hands-on activities.

Dance Kaleidoscope’s “The Next Wave”

Indy’s resident professional contemporary dance company benefits from an artistic director, David Hochoy, who not only sets his own dances on the company but also occasionally turns over the choreographic chores to other innovative dance creators. Here, audience will get to see what happens when the company gets creative with choreographers  Stephanie Martinez Bennett, Kiesha Lalama, Lucy Bowen McCauley  and, with a new piece, Brock Clawson.

Wes Montgomery album release

The Jazz Kitchen celebrates the release of “Wes Montgomery: In the Beginning,” a new CD set of recently discovered recordings. The free evening includes a panel discussion and performance by Indy Guitar Summit. Also at the Jazz Kitchen this week, 2013-14 Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship recipients Rob Dixon, Cathy Morris, Gordon Bonham, and John Alvarado perform in a May 13 free concert.

Spotlight brings a smorgasbord of talent to the Clowes Hall benefitting HIV awareness May 11.

The Jazz Kitchen celebrates the release of “Wes Montgomery: In the Beginning,” a new CD set of recently discovered recordings May 12. The free evening includes a panel discussion and performance by Indy Guitar Summit. Legendary jazz vocalist Diane Schuur takes over May 9-10.

Also on the CD front, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra releases its new disc, “Momentum 21,” at the Schrott Center May 12.

Larry Sweazy reads from his latest mystery novel, “See Also Murder,” at Indy Reads Books May 15.

ComedySportz offers its improvised “AMUSE-ical” Fridays through May 29.

Onyxfest offers new work by African-American playwrights May 15-24 on both stages at IndyFringe.

Jennie DeVoe plays the Warehouse May 16.

Nick Offerman & Megan Mullally team up at the Murat Theatre May 16 while, on the same date, Marilyn Manson plays the Egyptian Room.

The Ronen Chamber Ensemble plays the world premiere of Michael Schelle’s “The Wolves of Parnassus” at Circle Theatre’s Wood Room May 12. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, led by guest conductor Cristian Macelaru and joined by cellist Johannes Moser, play Tchaikovsky May 15-16.

The Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show opens May 15 at Bloomington’s Grunwald Gallery of Art. .

“Peter Pan” lands at Beef & Boards May 14-July 3.
