—Getting antsy waiting for a new book from Ben H. Winters? The new book “Manhattan Mayhem” (Quirk Books), edited by Mary Higgins Clark, has a short mystery by IBJ 40 Under 40 honoree.
—Also on the book front, "Made You Up," a young adult novel by UIndy undergrad Francesca Zappia has been released from Greenwillow Books, a HarperCollins imprint. It's part of a two book deal for the 22-year-old Franklin Central graduate.
—Pat McAfee is used to playing in big arenas. But it should be interesting to see how he handles the Palladium, where the All-Pro punter will take his comedy act on July 11.
—Look for a new mural by Department of Public Words (no, that’s not a typo) being installed at 907 N. Pennsylvania St. (that’s the Datsa Pizza building). The mural honors Charlotte “Pink” Cathcart, author of “Indianapolis From our Old Corner.”
—Fair Oaks Farms is opening its Pork Education Center with, appropriately enough, the Bacon Brothers Band, on June 28.
—The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra has announced its first season under new music director Matthew Kraemer. The season opens Oct. 10 with Tessa Lark, 2014 International Violin Competition Silver Medalist, continues with Handel’s “Messiah,” in December, collaborates with the Indianapolis Museum of Art on another silent movie (TBA) in March, offers the world premiere of James Aikman’s “The Peacemakers” in April, and closes in May with pianist Angela Zhang.
—The Eiteljorg Museum joins over 2000 museums across the country in offering free admission to military personnel and their families through Labor Day.
—Indiana Repertory Theatre Executive Director Janet Allen has been inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Theatre, an honorary association of theater educators and professionals.
—For those who wanted to go to IU Cinema but didn’t want to take chances on ticket availability, there’s good news. Beginning this summer, the screening room now offers online ticketing.
