“La Casa Azul”
Ambitious isn’t quite the word for Gregory Hancock, whose self-named theater company will be presenting his long-in-the-works new musical based on the life of artist Frida Kahlo. Hancock not only wrote the music and co-wrote the lyrics, but also choreographed (of course), created the costumes, and is directing. To be clear, this is not your typical Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre show but a complete sung-through, original musical. The company has even put together a cast recording, which will be available at the performance and on iTunes.

Indy PopCon
“But what can I actually do?” you might ask if you’re a borderline pop culture fan who hasn’t been to a convention such as this. Well, for starters, you could fill your weekend by listening to Geek Standup Comedy, sit in on a discussion on Gender Identities in Media, watch “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” have your art portfolio reviewed by a former Marvel talent manager, visit the Museum of Geek History, sit in on a podcast, and be a part of a starship crew by taking a seat in the Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator. Then again, you could just play Mario Kart 8 and try to get a glimpse of Zach Galligan (“Gremlins”), Sam Jones (“Flash Gordon”) or Edward James Olmos (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”)

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra performs Mussorgsky’s “Picture at an Exhibition,” which isn’t something all that unusual. What is unusual is that 30 artists will also be at Conner Prairie painting during the performances, with the work to be displayed in April during the ISO’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” weekend. Also on the bill: Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto Concerto No. 1.”
